The Col de Sarenne is the quiet, backstairs way up to Alpe d'Huez. Some say the better way, I would have to agree with that. The road is bumpy enough to rid the valley of almost all traffic, but fine when climbing on a bike.
Peace and quiet are both valuable, precious, and for me at least, much sort-after. All can be found here in abundance.
