Col du Tourmalet
The Tourmalet is a monster climb, from the east it's steep, from the west, it's wild and open and long and steep. This is a monster with teeth, and I am not the only one to have been bitten. If you have been there, put it on your wall to remind yourself and others, how far you have come. If you haven't been there, put it on your wall to remind yourself, and others, of how far you still have to go.
Stage 10 of the 1910 edition of the Tour de France took on the Tourmalet. The first high mountain pass to be included in the Tour. It’s been going up it ever since, sometimes twice, it is the most visited of all the mountain passes the Tour visits. This has much to do with its location in the middle of the Pyrenees. In fact, it’s pretty difficult not to go up the Tourmalet, as there isn’t any way around it.
