The two-kilometre long teardrop-shaped loop around the Cime de la Bonette peak (2,860m.) from either side of the pass is the highest paved route in the Alps. Once you clear the tree line on the southern side, the Col de la Bonette isn't so much a landscape as a moonscape. It's also generally quiet and peaceful as if the world is holding its collective breath as it gazes on such a beautiful and unique place.
