Can you teach cycling photography?

Are all of those students up and down the country just wasting years of their lives on degree courses studying for jobs that don't exist? In my opinion, the answer is yes, and mostly, although not completely. You can go into related fields such as working one of the many photo libraries. Which is fine unless you think as I do those photo libraries are responsible for the death of photographic creativity and consequently the dearth of original work the world over.

Getty Images are the Simon Callow of the photography world. While you can admire their ability to make money, they both end up killing the thing they proclaim to love.

Of course, it very much depends on the type of photography you want to do, studio work, technical photography and related subjects require training of some kind but on-the-job training would be far better than a university degree. David Bailey said when asked what should a young photographer study? Answered, business studies. So, apart from sending budding photographers off to do business studies and die a long and painful death what can be done?
