Contemporary cycling photography of the great European cycling climbs. Iconic climbs of the Pyrenees, the Dolomites, the French, Italian, and Swiss Alps. From the Passo Stelvio to the Col du Galibier, the Col du Tourmalet to the Col d'Aubisque. This contemporary photography captures the fundamental essence, beauty, and grandeur of these famous mountain passes, featured every year in the Tour de France, the Tour de Suisse, and the Giro d'Italia.
It's important to understand that cyclists are fanatics. It comes with the territory. Don't expect them to be normal. For a bike rider, cycling 27km. up a mountain for no apparent reason is normal. They do it for the challenge, they do it because they can, for the thrill of it, for the kudos, for the buzz. For the incredible sense of elation that comes with being in the middle of a landscape so impressive it takes your breath away. To know without a shadow of a doubt this is a good day, a great day, a day to remember, a day that counts.
The thunderstorm rumbling around the previous afternoon finally broke across the mountains.
Throwing ice-cube-size hailstones down and washing tons of debris, people, and vehicles off the mountain tops.
By dawn, the road crews had partially cleared the road and reopened the pass. The storm had vanquished the oppressive heat and washed the sky clean.
Out of chaos, beauty is born - Perfect time for a ride.
Alpe d'Huez is considered one of the top climbs in the Tour de France. Despite only being 13.2 km with 1,071m of climbing and an average percentage of 8.1%, it may not seem like one of the most challenging climbs on paper.
However, the climb is intense from start to finish, with little respite from the gradient or the heat radiating off the south-facing rock-lined road. The full-on intensity of the climb compensates for its lack of altitude and length.

Alpe d'HuezThe Sa Calobra - Mallorca, winds its way from the sea onto the shoulder of the Puig Major, Mallorca's highest mountain. Situated in the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, the Sa Calobra has over 59,000 Strava entries ranging from under 28 minutes to six and a half hours. Just enough time to take in the view.

Sa CalobraMany people say they find climbing the Stelvio relatively easy as they are so distracted by the mind-boggling scenery they forget how tough it is. No matter if it gets tough, this is still the only place on earth you want to be right now.

I bought an A0-size Col de la Bonette - If you have any doubts about which size to choose, go big as possible. The picture looks amazing.

We ordered a couple of pictures of my favourite climbs to put up in the office. I thought I was buying a picture of the Galibier, but what I got was a work of art. Amazing.
