Setting the Cadence
In cycling terms cadence is, roughly speaking, the number of crank revolutions per minute, this is the rate at which a cyclist is turning the pedals. Finding the best cadence has a significant effect on the amount of effort and energy used to cover the ground. In this picture, the bike rider is at the bottom of the Zig Zag Road climb and setting the best cadence is especially important because it's a long way to the top.
